Nobody truly knows what is about us.
Adrian Flower was born in Whitehaven on the west coast of Cumbria. He began darkroom life as a 12 year old pupil at Bushfield School in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. Inspiring him to focus on photography as an art form from an early age. Adrian attended both Cumbria College of Art & Design (1991) & Portsmouth University (1993-1996) completing Foundation and Design Communication courses respectively.
In 2004 Adrian set up a photographic portrait business in Chrisp Street, Poplar E14. During this time in East London, he had a rostrum of 24 schools that he visited to take photographic portraits and captured 200 weddings in and around the London area.
In 2012 Adrian established Studio 73; an art gallery and picture framing business in Brixton, South London. The art space hosted shows from locally based artists as well as artists from all over the world.
In 2021, Adrian introduced #lofipostershow - a fast moving way to present large poster prints on the streets of London using magnets and metal surfaces. It was a reaction to the closed galleries and spaces as a result of the pandemic. A means to address a blank canvas opportunity working with our environment.
In 2022, Brixton Art Prize was born, a globally focused art prize celebrating the best in the emerging arts. The idea was born as Adrian was inspired by his time in Brixton market, surrounded by people from 'all around us, from all over the world, seemingly getting along..' and with this positive experience; Brixton Art Prize was created. In its launch year, over 700 artists applied to be considered for the prize following the theme 'Conflict & Integration'.
The theme for the 2025 Art Prize programme is 'Warmer Still'.
Up to date in 2024, where a brand new exhibition space has been created to showcase art shows, in collaboration with Jeroen van Dooren.
Our next Studio 73 Gallery art outing is on 7th November at Arch 18, Valentia Place SW9 8PJ.
